Lexus has released the official technical remedy inspection procedure for the V35A-FTS 3.4L Twin-Turbo V6 Crank Bearing Safety Recall covering certain 2023–2024 Lexus LX 600 and 2024 Lexus GX 550 vehicles. Issued in the United States under Lexus Campaign 25LA07 (NHTSA 25V-767) and in Canada under Campaign Code RL1, this remedy uses an acoustic crankshaft hammering test to determine whether the engine bearings are healthy or require a complete engine assembly replacement.

Recall Background: Why the V35A Engine Is Being Inspected

According to official Lexus technical documentation, there is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced.

In the involved vehicles, this residual manufacturing debris can contaminate the crankshaft main bearings and lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no-start, and/or a sudden loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.

How the Dealership Crank Bearing Inspection Works

Rather than tearing down the engine block to visually check the bearings, Lexus uses a specialized acoustic resonance procedure (**Hammering Inspection**). Skipping the minor administrative steps, here is the core process performed in the service bay:

1

Engine Oil Change (Filter Not Required) & #1 TDC Alignment

First, the technician drains the old engine oil, installs a new drain plug gasket (90430-12031, torqued to 30 ft-lbf / 40 N·m), and refills the engine with 8 quarts of fresh 0W-20 SP engine oil. (Note: Oil filter replacement is not required for this inspection.)

After warming the engine up and connecting the diagnostic software, the technician turns the engine off, removes the two V-ribbed drive belts, and rotates the crankshaft clockwise to align the Timing Mark (Cutout) on the crankshaft pulley with the "0" Timing Mark (setting Cylinder #1 to TDC/Compression).

2

Attach Accelerometer Sensor & Hammer the Crankshaft Pulley

Once engine coolant and oil temperatures settle into the target window, the technician cleans the center crankshaft bolt and attaches the special Accelerometer sensor ("Pick") directly onto the top of the crank bolt, connecting it via USB to the PC running the Bearing Inspection App. Following the software instructions, the technician strikes the crankshaft pulley at the 3 o'clock position with a plastic hammer to record three valid impact waveforms (Good 1/3 to 3/3).

Follow the Software Judgment ("OK" vs. "Replace")

After three accurate hammer strikes are recorded, the application automatically uploads the vibration diagnosis to the cloud and displays the final verdict on the screen:

Result: OK

Engine assembly replacement is NOT required. The technician removes the sensor, reinstalls the two drive belts, and restores the vehicle to its original condition.

Result: Replace

Engine assembly replacement IS required. The dealership replaces the complete V35A-FTS engine assembly according to official technical instructions free of charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the official US and Canadian recall numbers for this V35A bearing inspection? +

In the United States, this campaign is tracked under NHTSA Recall 25V-767 and Lexus Campaign 25LA07 (interim phase 25LB07, expanding upon the earlier 24LA04 / 24V-381 recall). In Canada, Lexus issued this campaign under Recall Code RL1 (interim phase RL0).

Does the dealership replace the oil filter during the recall oil change? +

No. The official technical instructions explicitly state that 8 quarts of fresh 0W-20 oil and a new drain plug gasket (90430-12031) are installed prior to the hammering test, and oil filter replacement is not required.

Is the inspection and potential engine replacement completely free? +

Yes. Because this is an official safety recall (25LA07 / RL1), both the oil change/hammering inspection and—if the software displays "Replace"—the complete engine assembly replacement are performed 100% free of charge by any authorized Lexus dealership, regardless of warranty expiration or mileage.
